It is a shame it takes so long time, and this wasn't already done in 3.12.

At least it's moving in the right direction. All said and done, I think Wayland as default will come at the start of 2016.

Agreed. I'm also pretty sure systemd will be the default for Debian by then as well.

I'm not sure about Debian, but I did an upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10 at home and it already switched from upstart to systemd apparently.

systemd is the default for Debian now

Well that was quick. Also I have Ubuntu 14.10 installed and I didn't notice a real difference between it and Upstart if they already switched it. I mean, it was fast to boot up, but I expect it would have been about the same due to my SSD and the mounting flags I have for it. It is still wicked fast to boot up, we're talking about 3 seconds (not including POST) and assuming you spam Enter to get through GRUB quick. It takes about 1 second from Suspend too.

That being said, it didn't keep me from the usual weird Unity issues, like installing fglrx and not having Unity, then having to create a folder so I could navigate to bin to open the terminal to install ccsm and fix the issue.

Then again, maybe I get these issues because I feel the need to always run bleeding edge. I mean, blender crashes on me quite often for that very reason. I just wish I had enough time to figure out how to get it to take my r9 290's opencl capabilities. I have the same problem in Windows so I'm not sure if it's AMD's drivers or Blender, or both. I know I can force the r9 290 to be detected and used for opencl in Windows, but that causes random crashes too.

That being said, a lot of games I've been playing with the card including emulators have been working great. (Whoops, way off topic now, sorry!)

14.10 still uses Upstart by default not systemd.

They will maybe switch to systemd in 15.04 but it is more probable that the change will occur in 15.10 one release before the LTS.
