    This is the first update in the a series since a7, however a lot of work has been going on in Illumos kernel itself and in the "hipster" repository where the "bleeding-edge" stuff is happening.

    My belief from following the forums is that the a8 release was pushed out there prior to the first stable release, as soon as a8 has proven to be reliable.
