    great news

This is great! Now old SPARC CPU users will be able to use a modern Solaris system with SunOS 5.11. Now we are not stuck with Solaris 10 anymore.

Why are the ram requirements so freakishly high? :/ especially on solaris versions 9+

Java shoudln't be that inefficient. In any case I have a U1E and Blade 100 neither of which have enough ram to run it at the moment :/

Java isn't the issue, in fact you can pretty much run the system without it (Don't get confused by the "Java Desktop" which is just a rebranded Gnome, nothing to do with Java, just made by "Sun") ...

ZFS is the issue, it's a huge memory hog ... but you kinda have to expect that from the advantages that you get from it.

There are screenshots though that show it running on a 1Gb machine ... might still be worth a go on your old hardware.

Yeah, Java should not be the issue. You can try to figure out the problem of ZFS

            What exactly is ZFS?

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.
