Phoronix: Linux 3.5 On The TI OMAP4 PandaBoard ES

The Linux 3.5 kernel for Texas Instruments OMAP4 devices has finally been uploaded into the Quantal repository for Ubuntu 12.10. With the upgraded kernel release, here are some new benchmarks of the popular PandaBoard ES compared to earlier Ubuntu 12.10 development snapshots, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 11.10 from the dual-core Cortex-A9 ARMv7 development hardware.

Thanks for the recent ARM benchmarks. They have been very interesting indeed, especially considering ARM is huge in the mobile space. You should consider benchmarking the $25 Raspberry Pi and comparing it to some of the other cheap ARM boards.

Rpi is pretty horrible from what I tested it. While the software versions might differ (and I mainly tested web servers, gzip + openssl), there is no Ubuntu for the Pi, so even Phoronix benches couldn't match all versions really.

In general the most Linux distros are TOO much for the RPi.. The only OS that runs fairly quick there is RISCOS (still in Alpha version)
