    So... it's happening...

Not that it's that important, the old GoldSrc games run pretty well under Wine. But native Linux games are always Good News... still waiting for L4D2, though.

Ok that came unexpected, I honestly expected to see their Source titles out first...

Edit: it's not listed in the Linux games and the Store page claims it's Windows-only... Where did you get this from Micheal?

This is really cool news, I didn't think they would bother with their really old Windows only titles. Awesome to see Valve are commited to get their whole library onto Linux, even if it is only because of their Steambox plans. Now I wish I picked up the Half-Life games during the holiday sale.

I bought it in Steam and tested on my Arch desktop, it works.

It's considered beta so I suppose that's why it's not listed in those areas. My short testing, it seemed to run fine.

              Nice little surprise this morning!

Hmmm, I can't tell you where he got it from, but its on my games list and I just installed it. So its true. It shows up as "Half-life (Beta)".

So does this mean that their Source games all run fine now that they have moved on?

My guess would be that they have different teams working on each of the different engines. A while back I heard they were waiting at least till the release of ubuntu 12.04.2 to do their proper Steam for Linux release. They will probably need some testing to make sure things work well with that release but after that we should hopefully finally be getting out of beta which is when I would imagine they will bombard us with a sizable chunk of the Valve library.

I'm confused as to why they ported the GoldSrc version. They've got an official build of the original Half Life that runs on the newer source engine, why not use that one?

Porting older titles allows people with hardware that wont run tf2(on linux), to be part of the valve beta loop.
One of the older lappys here can only run tf2 -on windows-, so i cant wait to test CS and see what happens.

                              Besides, its probably less trouble.
