Seems to be a lot of misinformation around this. The signing enforcement doesn't restrict addons to only those hosted by Mozilla. Any third party is able to get their extension signed. There are some that will be subjected to review first, if they do certain things, and this aspect of it certainly could be debated. Nothing about it is DRM, though, or requires anything to be closed-source. Further, Mozilla has already stated an intention to release an unbranded release version that will leave the config option in to allow unsigned extensions.
