With the existing Ubuntu Software Center already supporting much of this, it seems like a lot of duplicated effort -- and a repeat of five years ago -- now writing this new Software Store for Ubuntu Touch in the Click package world.
Application bundles in general are a completely different beast from the current packaging system. They require different infrastructure from the OS (sandboxing, stable platform ABI, etc.) and different handling by the app store.

Is it still going to be the slowest piece of software known to man?

      Oh, I forgot iTunes.

The second slowest piece of software known to man?

In addition to that the current software center gui is written in python and has dependency on gtk, which results in it being somewhat slow and ugly. With the move to qt all system dependencies on gtk must go.

Thatís a nice way to put it. Also, unreadable with dark themes. Possibly as a consequence, (almost) no one buys anything there.

O_O It was an overstatement. The latest versions of the store have become very fast on open. Also it is the way to install software in ubuntu that costs money and is not distributed separately.

still a bit slow when installating deb packages as it first loads the main page and then the .deb application page.
