Phoronix: GIMP Gets Good Metadata Support Via Exiv2

Making GIMP 2.10 a more exciting release is that the open-source image manipulation/editing program finally has good support for dealing with image meta-data for EXIF, IPTC, and XMP formats...

GIMP should provide a complete high definition image editing workflow like Krita to get back in the game again.

I find it ironic that gimp refuses to change its name. It's the main reason I never recommend the program to anyone.
The only project that has a worst name that I know of is Gigolo.

Majority of the groundwork for that has been done in git master already. GIMP 2.10 will have basic high-bitdepth image editing functionality.

If you want to donate to work on GIMP, one of the developers Jehan Pagès is raising money to implement mirror painting. (see 4 news item on http://www.gimp.org/ or http://girinstud.io/news/2013/09/cro...nting-in-gimp/ ). Even if you are not particularly interested in that feature, Jehan contributes a lot to GIMP ( https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/lo...author&q=Jehan ) and success in this campaign is likely to lead to others.

A super easy way to bribe developers to fix bugs and add features in the software you're using.

Any news on 2.10 release date? I get that it may be difficult to say, so maybe at least some news on when some repos become available with 2.9 of decent stability? I used GIMP 2.7 for, IIRC, over a year before 2.8 got officially released and I had no problems with it, and all the major features to be in 2.8 were in 2.7.

Tried to post a picture for you but didn't show up. URL: http://i.imgur.com/dYPnMW2.png

(on Windblows because PrtScr didn't work in Linux Mint when the menu was open)

That's a very neat GTK style. Does that come by default with GIMP on windows?

Its a way off yet. There are still performance regressions after the move to GEGL and some subsystems need to be updated to make sense with the new capabilities. Help wanted!
