So far I've found only .deb to download.

Is there any simple way of installing this deb file to Arch?

By 'simple' I mean that it doesn't include manual extraction of deb file and copying of extracted files to their designated location...

Install alien and convert it like this:
        Code:
        alien --to-rpm the-file.deb

It may be late, but at least they got it done.

There should be a .tgz tarball so that it'll be a simple matter to make a PKGBUILD to generate a package for Arch

Hasn't gmail voice and video been available for quite a while on Empathy and Pidgin?

Yay for artificial software incompatibility barriers for otherwise perfectly cross-distro-compatible binaries!

Sadly their plug in appears to require a multilib install for 64bit distros . I'm greatly disappointed in Google. I expect more from them than Adobe. How hard is it to compile a full 64bit version? I would think that they would want the performance of 64 bits instead of thunking the processor back to 32bit mode.

Someone has already put it in AUR...

I've just installed with 'yaourt google-talkplugin'...

yep, but this is about support through their own client.
