    Have they actually said that about Mir? The only project I know of that's advanced the "single distro specific" argument was KDE's KWin... Gnome/Gtk+ may hold similar opinions, but to my knowledge, they've never rejected a patch on that basis.

      Yes and no patches to add Mir support has been submitted either afaik. The work done to support Wayland on GTK means that abstractions are already in place and adding Mir support should be easier but someone should write such patches, propose it upstream and volunteer to maintain it.
