I really don't have any problems with ads. I've never bought anything as a result from seeing an ad on a website, but I have clicked on a few of them to find out more. I think as long as they don't get in the way of actual Phoronix content, then they are OK.

I think placement is the real issue here. Ads placed in pretty bad places that do get in the way of actual content. Fix that and all is well.

Most people seem to be okay with them, its the big blinking colorful distracting flash ads with sounds and animations that people really hate.
Google AdSense makes next to no money...

And they sometimes do display "rich" media depending on your settings.

It's still generally CPC rather than CPM, etc. I've tested it out and right now it's mostly used as a third fallback mechanism for ads on Phoronix and for small countries where there is otherwise no ad coverage from my other networks.

People are always pissed off, no matter what you do. There's no magic system that everyone will somehow agree with.

Fix something for 1 person, and 2 more will start complaining.

And the one person won't really be thankful.

Based on feedback, I may end up using this current site design in a modified manner for a new site/project launching soon to then vet out the bugs and complaints that people have, if any really exist.

First thanks for your recent article

Very good article, opensource vs privative drivers comparative in all brands its really neccesary for all users on linux

But i suggest if you have test wine in all brands used in opensource vs privative drivers comparative is really neccesary and could give users some information about actual wine state in different brands hardware (AMD/INTEL/NVIDIA)

                    Thanks for your attention

I like this layout http://www.phoronix.com/image-viewer...x_new_site_lrg as long as it's not stretched tp 100% but centered like http://arstechnica.com and http://www.tomshardware.com/ to name but a few.
