Yeah... I had this crazy idea only today and guess what, about the accommodation, you guessed it

So are you saying you're gonna be there for the whole thing? If my parachute opens, I might, just might be there for the last weekend.

I leave Munich on 5 October, so I will be there till the end. I get in next Sunday though due to XDS so I just miss the first day (or two, depending if you count the Friday or not or I think this year it might technically "open" Thursday due to the 200 Jahre).

I'll be around the last weekend. The last weekend is usually like the first weekend where it's very crowded, but fortunately my waiter and waitress always gets me seats though in the aforementioned area of the Augustiner tent, but if it gets too warm inside or too rowdy chances are I'll move over to the Augustinerkeller or another biergarten.

You're either a serious beer drinker or I don't know

Have you ever had Augustiner or Franziskaner? It's not all about the beer at Oktoberfest as many people (well, particularly Americans) believe, but the food, people, culture, etc etc are great as well.

In reality it's just my two~three week annual "holiday" where I go from working (as in benchmarking, software development, writing articles, monitoring RSS feeds, other work, etc etc) almost constantly (well, ~15 or more hour days are the norm) down to ~2 hours a day but as you will see there's already a queue of Phoronix articles and other work to be published during this time.

That's unfortunate seeing as they are the best beers in the world, in my opinion.

If you go, see my post about my Oktoberfest location or just send me a message in advance.

Munich's six main breweries are usually locked in bitter competition. But this year, they have taken the unprecedented step of joining forces to create a special beer in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Oktoberfest. The move follows a recent drive to strengthen the festival's folk traditions.

Just read this... I think on Oktoberfest Wednesdays I may relocate to this special Oktoberfest tent to drink this "secret" Oktoberfest jubile beer, if I like it next week. If anyone goes to Oktoberfest this Saturday or Sunday before I am there, please post how this special Oktoberfest beer is....

                    Hi Michael,

I will be on the Oktoberfest on October the 3rd. As that's a Sunday, I'll be in Munich from October the first onwards. (Will leave on Monday).

Is there any way to contact you ?

                    -Tom

I carry my handy and do have a Munich number that forwards to it, but I never end up hearing it in the tents anyways. Best way to contact me is to just let me know a day or two in advance about what time you'll be there if you're going to the Augustiner spot.
