There will be an update on the state of Vulkan and OpenGL.
It would probably still be more than a year until we get stable Vulkan support, and I hope there will be at least another minor OpenGL update. I'm hoping for more standardized bindless extensions, command lists and conservative raster, all of which is already supported by Nvidia.
What if they release OpenGL 4.6 instead or as well as Vulkan?
I fully expect them to. They've explicitly said that OpenGL is not dead, and will continue to exist. Adding some Vulkan interop capabilities (such as allowing SPIR-V shaders) would be a great addition.
Khronos standards are fundamental to many of the technologies on display at SIGGRAPH. Look for the examples of the latest updates of many of our APIs in many of our members’ and partners’ booths
Vulkan Progress Report:
Introduction, goals, status: Tom Olson, Vulkan Working Group Chair, ARM
Vulkan ecosystem support: Jens Owen, LunarG
Window system integration: Alon Or-bach, Vulkan WSI TSG Chair, Samsung
What?s changed since GDC: Jesse Barker, ARM
Some cool things about Vulkan: Tobias Hector, Imagination Technologies
Platform and hardware support: Members and community
"Progress Report", "Goals", "Status" doesn't make it sound like a Vulkan 1.0 release with drivers is likely next week.
It will be interesting to hear about the Window system integration. I hope they have a Wayland extension.
It's interesting that Samsung holds the WSI Talk. Bryce Harrington of Samsung is also currently in charge of Wayland/Weston project leadership.
