Phoronix: Open-Source NVIDIA Driver Works On Some GeForce 700 GPUs

With being in the process of checking out several new NVIDIA GeForce 700 GPUs on Linux, now that I have out of the way the GeForce GTX 760 / 770 / 780 Ti / TITAN Linux benchmarks and Windows vs. Linux NVIDIA benchmarks, I decided to see how these four "Kepler" graphics cards are working with Nouveau, the open-source NVIDIA graphics driver that's written through clean-room reverse-engineering. Up until recently Nouveau has just been an open-source community project, except now NVIDIA is beginning to support Nouveau and open-source, so let's see how it runs on this latest high-end graphics hardware.

if you want to use opensource drivers, don't get nvidia. If you're OK with using closed source drivers and want the best experience on linux, get nvidia.

If you want real open source drivers use nvidia. If you want pseudo open source drivers use AMD. Even RMS agrees.

What part of the radeon driver is "pseudo"?

Read up on how ATI became open source in the first place, and on the role of the RadeonHD project.

[quote]However, the ATI drivers use nonfree microcode blobs, whereas most of nVidia's products (excepting the most recent ones) work ok with Nouveau, which is entirely free and has no blobs.[quote]

If we had to do what Richard Stallman tells us to do, we would all be connected to the Internet through a text console reading emails with Emacs and downloading web pages with wget...

(albeit, a long shot from the OpenGL 4.3 support provided by the official driver)
I believe official driver has been oGL 4.4 since the start of the 33x.00 series.

not trolling. Sad but true that AMD has been somewhat friendlier with FLOSS than nVidia; however Raedon depends on nonfree firmware for 3D acceleration.

Go try find an AMD GPU that has 3D acceleration under 100% environments on H-Node
