  • More Broken Promises and Prevarication

So where exactly is the new 6.13 ddx driver for radeon that was promised some weeks ago ?

Don't bother with any more stalling tactics and bare-faced lies : I want a definite release date, and I want it now.

No more excuses : give a DEFINITE RELEASE DATE.

Exactly where are these promises you talked about.

All I can find is this a phoronix a few weeks ago:

In response to an inquiry, AMD's Alex Deucher has responded. "Now that 2.6.33 is out we'll be rolling a KMS-capable radeon release. I just haven't had time to get to it yet. Hopefully next week."
And, frankly, I'm not sure anyone really gives a shit what you want. No offense, of course.

Given enough money, I'm sure you can convince them to release RC2 as final.

And maybe you should take a look at the GPL license sometime.

I want, I want, I want. Sounds a bit like a spoiled child.

Unfortunately the code isn't licensed under the GPL. But that's another story.

Off Topic, but what is the differences between xorg and gpl?

The X11 license is similar to the three-clause (new/revised) BSD license, i.e. it's not a copyleft license and about half of it is just boilerplate liability disclaimers that don't really limit how the code may be used.

The X.org license is a slightly modified version of the MIT license, which in turn is based on the BSD license but without the advertising restrictions. BSD, MIT and X.org are all *very* open licenses which basically say "do what you want with the code but don't sue us if it doesn't work".

GPL, on the other hand, is a "copyleft" license which places more restrictions on anyone using the code, particularly the requirement that any changes to the code be made available in source form if you distribute the modified code in any form.

The X.org / MIT / BSD licenses allow relicensing to GPL (which is why X.org-licensed code is allowed in the Linux kernel even though it has not actually *been* relicensed) while the GPL license does *not* allow relicensing to X.org or any similar license. X.org and similar licenses also allow the code to be used in proprietary systems without restriction, while GPL licenses generally do not allow use in proprietary systems unless there are specific exceptions added to the license.

I am curious as to why you care when the git source is tagged with some version?

I'm just asking since I personally use the latest xorg stable stuff together with the git versions of libdrm, xf86-video-ati and media-libs/mesa and I don't really give a damn what version the latest git snapshop I'm checking out and compiling is tagged.

HOWEVER... If it is very important then we can all gang up and piss the Alex Deucher off immensely until he becomes so upset that he commits a change like 819b4015349b5d8c5ffa5f979097599774fce5bb with a very high version number (instead of 6.12.191 to 6.12.192). I would personally prefer that he remains happy and does more actually useful stuff like e167403e5809c447870644bd9ea09fad369706cf (enable HW accelerated gl(Read/Copy/Draw)Pixels). The xf86-video-ati code really isn't that much fun without mesa...

I promise *you* we'll release it on the 18th March.

of course I don't know who you are or even care why your mom let you on the Internet without supervision, so you can probably guess my promise is meaningless.

                        Dave.

                          You said it yourself

                          Thanks Dave

You have spelled it out fully, and I am very grateful for that.

Your promises count for absolutely NOTHING.

But I am curious, curious as to how a monstrous cretin like yourself was ever let anywhere near xorg. Having lost the battle of the desktop, RedHat have obviously decided that the best course is sabotage.

And as for your point about *my* provenance, it is none of your goddamned business. If you want to start trading insults, I think you'll find your employer will have something to say about that. I hope that point is VERY clear.

My employer is very aware that the Internet is full of mentally-challenged idiots.

I hate when something is released at time, just because somebody said it will be released this or another day (like Ubuntu...). It's something natural IMHO to ignore the previously set release date if there are some things that needs to be fixed etc. You can get the driver using git, so is this so important if its officially announced or not? Dave is doing great job and that's a fact!

Btw. about what battle of the desktop or sabotage are you talking about? Which battle does RedHat lost?
