What separates this from 319? I haven't used the nvidia proprietary drivers in a couple years so I'm a little out of the loop with this one.

The latest driver in the ubuntu 12.04 LTS repository is 310.14, hope this gets updated to the final version.

Which cards will get pushed off into legacy land?

        Or card/chip families, etc

None. Everything that supports 310 also supports 319.

You could install nvidia-graphics-drivers-313 from xorg-edgers, I wouldn't recommend the 319 series yet because of the performance results posted on Phoronix.

            # sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
            # sudo apt-get update
            # sudo apt-get install nvidia-graphics-drivers-313
//You could upgrade everything else, but if you don't want to, go to your software repositories and uncheck the ppa.

              I haven't done that because 310 works.

How do they come up with this naming convention?

                  xyz

x gets bumped when y hits a 9, y gets bumped during major changes, z gets bumped for new releases in the same y series

                  EDIT: ....I think...

Hum, if they are at 319 now, does it mean that now they will be forced to make major changes for the next driver?
