a consumer gives a programm 1 double click to run nothing more.

          Same procedure Kano.

Maybe you should look up the definition of consumer. Generating ones income off a purchase does not exclude it from being a consumer class product. In fact chances are if he is a game developer then he is going to use that consumer class card to see how his consumer class software performs for his consumers.

thank you very much.. this saves me to test this by my own...

o yes very consumer orientet you only need to set card name and compile some magic special lib and so one...
So your saying that you never do anything but double click? EVER!

Hmm, guess the average consumer needs nothing more then an iPad I guess.

you don't unterstand it ati card is always fine and the geforce 8600 at the lowest settings and a 640x480 resulution do have mega lag and is not fine.

                  @deanjo

That must be the old way, you do NOT need to patch wine.

What kind of justification is that? opensource or not I'm benefiting from features found on my card. You are not benefiting from those features.

                    only nvidia only apps count
How do you figure that? Performance is a huge consideration.

Yet I have no issue. PEBKAC
LMFAO nice post to a thread where CPU clock speed is the limiting factor. Maybe read your own links.

show me the linux game thats needs a gtx580 or an Programm.
I have shown you otherwise. I have uses for a GTX-580 and they are not limited to what your light demanding needs are. If you prefer to do things another way that is your decision but please don't assume that everyone is limited to what you define as "important" items. Some of us have higher demanding usages, you do not.

Could be Kano, I installed it well over a year ago some patching may no longer be needed.

                        opensource matters

if performance matters than i buy an 48core opteron 6000 system with 512gb of ram----

and a raid system with SSDs

i think the problem is wine uses a ogl3 feature that is not well supportet on an 8600 card..

an GTX580 does min 15fps on decent settings in arma2 OA

and no on decent settings the cpu isn't the limited factor-

Increase the core speed and watch the fps climb. Ya Arma2 is cpu limited.

Not to me, what matters is that something works the way I want it to. Same applies for 90+% of users out there.

BTW Guys, sorry for the delayed posting of the benches. I find myself doing more debugging of PTS then actually benchmarking this weekend.

no arma2 is gpu limited ... and hey they benchmark gpus with the fastest cpus to buy... think about that....

arma2 is gpu limited because if you set the settings right the gpu goes down and the cpu not.
