  • Apple mybe kick intel and goes AMD

    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...amd_chips.html

i think this will be a great deal!

Bulldozer+R900 (or r800/r900 hybrid) in an Apple notebook/apple-macpro

Would be good if it manages to convince Intel to start making less crappy integrated graphics.

if Apple switches to AMD maybe the ATI gfx drivers might see better support for linux as Mac OS X is quite similar to BSD... Right?

If AMD meets their claims with Bulldozer, this indeed could be interesting. Though, the next-gen Intel IGP is also interesting...

No. It's just that Apple would be a more demanding & paying customer.

the most apple users don't care abaut the hardware apple can also use VIA-nano cpus the users don't care!

but! apple users care abaut the graphical desktop and this is the point kills intel..

this crappy integrated graphics can't give anyone a good felling by using the system.

some people are happy with a 1ghz via nano+hd5870...
          by using 'openCL' for all..

but no one can accept a intel-integrated-graphic-card!

          apple need to move!

Oh Intel must be fooling all others than you that they sell so much that they could increase the revenue for the last quarter compared to the last year by factor 4. AMD really made revenue last quarter too, but compare 257 mio (-419 mio the year before) against 2400 mio (629 mio the year before). Poor AMD that only fools use your advices

Making affordable pieces of hardware that consume less TDP and make battery lives longer and making them useful in ALL platforms by supporting them driver-wise and not leaving driver development to independent volunteers is not a bad service = Intel
Making expensive pieces of hardware that consume a fortune of TDP in mobile and desktop platforms, not supporting them fully in select platforms (linux) despite the money user pays and not supporting them driver-wise properly and leaving development to independent volunteers is bad service = AMD

Maybe Apple can ship the mini macs with AMD chipsets and cpus, those usually don't need that much performance and the onboard vga seems to be really a bit faster. But i see no reason to switch for other systems which already use dedicated gfx. Many Apple systems use mobile technology and there is Intel the clear leader - no AMD mobile chip currently beats Intel here. Also the mac pros get the latest Intel cpus - the real expensive ones. Maybe a good day for AMD fanboys, but i don't think that will change the cpu market much.

apple do not want old stuff

apple want 32core bulldozer+OpenCL(28nm shrink of hd5870@1,5ghz 204gb/s vram) in the macpro

apple want 2-8core bulldozer+hypertransport based (vram)ram saving R900/R800 hybried in notebooks!

thats the clue! apple can save money on buying Vram for the GPU or in the other way save money on the cpu-ram by using the vram for the cpu.

apple can save a lot of money ! (i think 20-40 per unit)

bulldozer do have some special features to... antihypertheating!
you can smelt a dualcore bulldozer into a powerfull singlecore!
128bit sse unit to a 256bit sse unit double L2 cache ! and double FPU power!

apple want a 32core macpro smelt into a overloard 16core system!

this system do have 155gb/s on ddr3 1333 and more if you use 1600mhz ram!

It must be fun to sell unreleased hardware Do you think only AMD works on new hardware?
